Royal pardon for 5654 detainees (Ministry of Justice)
The Ministry of Justice announced today, Sunday, that His Majesty King Mohammed VI issued a pardon of Mawlawi to 5654 prisoners, and His Majesty issued orders to take all necessary measures to strengthen the protection of inmates of prison and correctional institutions from the spread of the Corona virus.
A communiqué stated to the Ministry that “In the framework of the continuous care that His Majesty Mohamed VI surrounds, may God assist him, his detained subjects in prison and correctional institutions, Mawlana, the Commander of the Faithful, prefers to issue his honorable pardon to 5654 detainees.”
The author stated that the detainees who benefited from this Mawlawi pardon were selected on the basis of "strict humanitarian and objective criteria", taking into account their age, the fragility of their health status, the duration of their detention, and the good conduct, behavior and discipline they demonstrated for the duration of their detention.
The source added that, given the exceptional circumstances related to the state of health emergency, and the imposed precautions to take it, this process will be implemented in a gradual manner.
He stated that, in this context, and in implementation of the royal directives, the beneficiaries of the royal pardon will be subjected to medical supervision and tests, and the necessary quarantine process in their homes, to ensure their safety.
From what was stated in the communication, “On the basis of the humanitarian considerations that have been consistently confirmed by His Majesty, and to protect the health and safety of detainees, especially in these difficult circumstances, and the conditions required for the protection of prison and correctional institutions from the spread of the new Corona virus (Covid 19), His Majesty issued The King, may God be pleased with him, instructed him to take all necessary measures to strengthen the protection of the residents of this institution, especially from the spread of this epidemic.
